We had our first brew day a couple days ago, a brown ale I bought with the fermenting equipment. For the most part it was smoother than anticipated, except for when I was putting on the airlock, the rubber grommet on the lid got pushed into the beer :(

FYI, it takes a LONG time to cool 5 gallons of water from 212F to room temp without the right gear...
I'm planning on purchasing a 16 gallon carboy from Craigs list or Kijiji...
ReplyDeleteWhat size of carboy or demijohn will you use for this?
Let me know, I'm interested in brewing.
How long did it take to make it?
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool. I've always wanted to do this, I'm going to try and get some tips from your blog.
ReplyDelete16 gallons is a lot! We're starting with 5 gallon batches in a 6.5 gallon bucket, and I'm picking up a 6 gallon carboy for secondary fermentation.
ReplyDeleteIt takes about 3 hours to get a batch in the fermenter, but 3-4 weeks for it to be ready to drink
Wow sounds like quite a project. Let us know how it comes out.
ReplyDeleteVery cool, been thinking of home brewing my self for a while now
